Ramaswami/McDermott Legacy: Ch. 3, Make Me Over

Lakshmi thought she did a great job with Jocasta Bachelor's makeover, but her client was in tears when she was finished. There's only so much you can do with a makeover, after all.

Since she had no other clients for the day, she offered her friend Narcissa, the salon's tattoo artist a makeover. Narcissa was thrilled with her new shorter haircut. "It really emphasizes the cuteness of my face!"

Despite her one unsatisfied customer, Lakshmi is promoted and is now sent out on makeover house calls. Gobbias Koffi is ecstatic about her in home services, but Lakshmi wonders if sending stylists out to people's homes is such a good idea. At the very least, she should demand a raise.

As she finds herself rushing to the bathroom for the second time this morning, Lakshmi suspects she might be pregnant. When her suspicion is later confirmed, she and Maximus debate whether they should marry. They both know it's what their families would expect of them, but they both left their families to get away from living up to other people's expectations.

Finally, the traditional expectations win out, and Maximus presents Lakshmi with his grandmother's ring. Now they have to debate names. No, not baby names, not yet at least, but their family name. Maximus suggests a hyphenated name, which seems to be popular in Sunset Valley. Pregnant Holly Alto just had a quickie marriage to her boyfriend Grady Elfman and ended up as Holly Alto-Elfman. But Lakshmi balks at Ramaswami-McDermott, ands suggests just taking his name. She's proud of her heritage, but has struggled all her life with people mispronouncing, misspelling and just plain forgetting her last name because it is unfamiliar to them.
